Casey and I are not very outgoing people, at least not enough to get up in front of a group of people and perform. Thus, watch, not perform at Northlights Thursday Open Mic. Located next to Oliver’s Market Place, Northlight is primarily known for buying and selling books that are significantly cheaper than the SSU bookstore. Something else that they do is open mic nights Thursday, before everyone goes out to the Crawl of course.

The small room created a cute coffee shop atmosphere and a great place to sit and listen to some live music and comedy. If only all of the entertainment was entertaining!  While not everyone may have been top notch, there were a select few talented performers. One of my Art FIG students played guitar and sang some Jason Mraz as well as created a sing along for everyone. Entertaining to say the least. On the complete other side of the spectrum, there was a “comedy” skit from a guy who thought he was funny. One of the most awkward, uncomfortable situations to be a part of when the performer is standing right in front of you. With no laughing to be heard, he finally jumped off the stage and hopefully put up his mic for good. Props to him for putting himself out there though.

Northlight open mic proved to be a relaxing and intimate event to share with your friends before you go out on the town. Something we would both love to do again, if only we did not have Thursday night class. I know, our lives are rough…
