With March right around the corner (first of all, how?!?!), the constant talk of tanning, dieting and beaches has begun. This year, if you are deciding to lay back and save money by excluding the big spring break trip to the Bahamas from your agenda, here are a few things that you can do to enjoy your week off, while not making a huge dent to your bank account:
1. Go home and spend time with family and friends.
This could be a vacation in itself – depending on how long it’s been since you’ve seen your hometown and the people in it. Not to mention, home cooked meals are way better than Cookout!
2. Start a new hobby.
Take the week off from schoolwork to focus on yourself. Whether that is picking up on an old hobby you used to have such as painting or playing soccer, or starting something totally new to you. You never know, this could be the beginning of a new passion.
3. Explore, Explore, Explore!
There is so much beauty around us, especially with the 80-degree weather in full effect. There is much to explore when it comes to nature. Explore reservations and waterfalls around you, or maybe take a day trip up to the mountains of North Carolina for a nice hike with friends.
4. Binge a new Netflix show.
Many of us have a hard time starting new T.V shows during the semester because we just don’t have the time to keep up, or we keep up with it regardless and lose track of things that really matter – a.k.a school work. Spring break is the perfect time to start and catch up on our favorite shows (I am loving Schitt’s Creek at the moment, I highly recommend for an easy watch).
5. Volunteer at an animal shelter.
Pawmetto Lifeline here in Columbia is a great place to volunteer with foster dogs. All you have to do is fill out an application, and go in for a two-hour training course afterwards to begin playing with some of the sweetest puppies around! Great for people who are missing their pups back home.
Doing any one of these five free spring break activities will leave you with that relaxed vacation feel we are all after!Â
