In our HC Spring Break Survival Kits, we received lots of amazing goodies perfect for our weeklong vacations. Included were tons of travel packets of TRESemmé shampoo and conditioner. If you have unruly hair like me, you probably never trust the hotel shampoo and conditioner because you know your hair don’t like that ish. Seeing a faithful brand like TRESemmé got me excited because it meant I didn’t have to buy travel sized hair products.
To be honest, I didn’t read the fine print before using them. Who needs instructions on how to wash their hair, am I right? I thought the packaging was a little backwards, but I ignored it and washed my hair as normal: shampoo, rinse, conditioner, rinse.
It wasn’t until the third day of my vacation that I actually took a good look at the packaging. That’s when I discovered the directions to use conditioner FIRST. Blasphemy! What’s the point of that? I was hesitant, especially since my hair had been in the ocean all day and was itching for a deep shampoo. Would conditioner feel good before my hair was clean? I was very skeptical. But curiosity got the best of me, so I tried it out.
Here’s what I thought about the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Reverse System:
The Process: It sounds a lot weirder than it was. The conditioner is a pre-wash, so it feels a little bit more like it’s cleaning your hair rather than just detangling. It was a lighter than your average conditioner. And honestly, it was kind of nice to smooth all the knots out before applying shampoo. You know sometimes when your hair is really knotty, your shampoo just isn’t satisfying? You don’t have that problem here! The shampoo felt pretty normal, nothing out of the ordinary.
The Result: My hair felt great! Super smooth and shiny. I was on a cruise in the Caribbean, so frizz was kind of inevitable. But TRESemmé really helped reduce that—I didn’t even need to apply frizz serum after I washed it! If you know me, you know that’s a huge deal. Now I’m not sure I’m about to go out and buy tubs of the TRESemmé Reverse System, especially since it’s a volumizing shampoo and the last thing my hair needs is more volume. But I would definitely use it again, and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s bold enough to try. It was truly a great addition to my Spring Break beauty routine.
Don’t trust my word on it? A couple of our HCSC team members also tried it. Here’s what they thought:
“I loved the TRESemmĂ© reverse system! I have to admit, I didn’t think it would work… I mean shampoo second? Hello tangles! But that’s not the case at all. The conditioner really lasted and my hair came out silky smooth- almost like I got a blow out!” – Sophia Krysa
“I honestly did not notice too much of a difference using the TRESemmĂ© pre-wash conditioner first before the shampoo. I usually do not use conditioner anyway due to my oily hair. However, over a longer period of time the conditioner before the shampoo combination might make a difference. After using it for only one day though there is not much difference as far as volume.” –Haley Schmitt
According to TRESemmé, “using Conditioner after you shampoo can weigh your hair down.” That’s why they came up with the reverse system. The pre-wash conditioner is designed to leave your hair soft and silky, and then the shampoo helps control static, infuses your hair with volume, and leaves it “perfectly prepped for styling.”
