As the weather heats up, we encourage you to take a drive down I-26 to visit some of South Carolina’s most beloved beaches!
1. Folly Beach
Folly tends to have a younger crowd, making it the perfect hotspot for collegiettes. The Washout is a popular spot for surfers, and the local shops and restaurants along the beach give it a laidback vibe. Situated just outside of Charleston, Folly is approximately two hours from Cola.
2. Coligny Beach Park

Coligny is a beach on Hilton Head Island. It makes a great day trip for collegiettes who want to enjoy the salty air without necessarily spending the entire day on the beach. Across the street from the beach, Coligny Plaza features plenty of beach-themed shops and restaurants! We recommend checking out Frosty Frog Café, Daquiri Bar, & Pizza as well as the Traveling Chic Boutique. Coligny is about 2 and a half hours from Columbia.
3. Lake Murray
Okay, we kind of cheated with this one. We get it; it’s not the ocean and it’s not exactly a “day trip.” However, if you’ve ever been to Lake Murray you know what fun it can be. It’s a short drive, so it’s ideal if you do not have a whole day to devote to the sun and sand. Lake Murray Public Parks cost $3 per car, and are situated in both Lexington and Irmo.
Myrtle Beach
Truth be told, Myrtle Beach makes a better weekend trip than a day trip. Although the drive is just over two and a half hours from Columbia, the attractions seem to be endless and you will want to take advantage of them all. However, if you get up early and are willing to stay late, you can make the most of just one day there. Myrtle Beach features plenty of shopping, miniature golf, entertainment, and, of course, beaches.
Grab your girls, and head out to soak up some rays and explore our beautiful state!
