Emily Fogarty is a professional blogger who turned her passion for fashion into a career! At the In Her Shoes event, Emily talked to the audience about her career, how she became a blogger and social media influencer, and even gave blogging tips! For those that couldn’t make the event, check out what Emily has to say about her career/passion:
Her Campus South Carolina: What is The Style Hunt?
Emily Forgarty: The Style Hunt is a fashion/lifestyle blog.Â
HCSC: How/When did you decide to become a fashion blogger?
EF: I started blogging in college, as a resume booster while applying for internships but it became “The Style Hunt” about three years ago. This was when I started putting myself at the forefront of my blog and putting more effort into the images and social media growth associated with it.Â
HCSC: What do you enjoy most about your job?
EF: I love the people I have met through blogging. Some of my closest friends are bloggers and we have met via social media. It is, for the most part, on of the most positive environments and I get so much love and respect from those ladies! I also love being able to work with brands I grew up loving. I have worked with Vera Bradley, IT Cosmetics, Fresh Market, Old Navy and many more. I would have to say my most favorite has got to be engaging with my readers. I love helping them find the perfect lipstick shade or a new pair of shoes. It may sound trivial, but it really does put you in a great mood!Â
HCSC: What are some challenges you have faced in getting to where you are today?
EF: Most of my struggles are internal. It is easy in the blogging world to compare yourself to others. And while that is inevitable, you have to remember why you started and fall back in love with it. Through this struggle, I have definitely gained a sense of confidence I never knew that I had.Â
HCSC: What is your advice to other bloggers – both those starting out and those who have been blogging for awhile?
EF: If you are debating it, just do it! Don’t worry about having the perfect photos or spending hours obsessing over what you are writing. Just start creating content and everything else will fall into place. I would also say to lean on your fellow bloggers in your area, whether you know them or not. Reach out and find friends! And to also make sure you L-O-V-E what you do. Blogging is not my full-time gig and keeping the balance and reminding yourself that you love what you’re sharing is key!Â
