The Greeks Give Back: Upcoming Fraternity and Sorority Events

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

Here at the University of South Carolina, Greek Life is a well-known presence on campus, composed of over 6,500 students. Between their endless functions, percent nights at local businesses, Bible Study and fundraisers, there are multiple ways to get involved whether or not you are a member of a sorority or fraternity. The following are just a few of the upcoming events for everyone to take part in through both participation as well as donations. Each event mentioned in this article will contribute money raised to their respective philanthropies. What’s better than having a good time with others in the Gamecock Community while giving back simultaneously!?

Quick Recap:

This past Thursday, Phi Mu hosted their annual BonnaMu festival at Breakers Live, with proceeds going towards Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

Saturday, Lambda Chi Alpha had their Watermelon Bash on Davis Fields outside of our beloved TCoop library. Raising money for Feeding America, participants were challenged to a line-up of watermelon related activities. Although the event has (sadly) passed, you’re still able to donate to the Harvest Hope Food Bank here to relieve some of the effects Hurricane Florence has had on surrounding areas.

On Wednesday, Greek Impact was held at 8:48 at the Delta Zeta house in Greek Village.

Coming Up:

Kappa Kappa Gamma is hosting SINGO! Tuesday, October Second from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Capstone Campus Room. SINGO! Is, you guessed it, a variation of Bingo that uses today’s hit music instead of numbers on the card. If you’ve got five in a row, better SINGO! because you’re a winner. The event supports their philanthropy Reading is Fundamental. Tickets (as well as where to make donations) can be found here https://my.crowdchange.co/6f37rg

Not busy on Tuesday? Grab a group of friends or organize a residence hall floor gathering and make a team for Alpha Chi Omega’s Paint War. Can’t make a team? Ask to join one! Located on Greene Street Fields on Oct 3, from 5 to 7 p.m., sororities, fraternities, student organizations and other Gamecocks will meet to splatter each other with foam and paint while wearing light colored shirts to raise money for Domestic Violence Awareness. It’s like a Color Run, but more color and less run
unless you’re trying to run away from your friends coming at you with handfuls of paint. Join or make a team by October First here.

Entry is $8 with an advanced purchase or $10 at the field.

Our school really must have the luck of the Irish with all of these amazing opportunities to get involved and give back, and Shamrock Week continues on doing just that. Hosted by Kappa Delta sorority, Shamrock Week will take place from October first through the fifth and include multiple events for students to get involved. Head over to the KD Instagram page and look out for updates on the coming week @southcarolinakd. All events and money raised during the Week will go towards benefiting Prevent Child Abuse America.

Lastly, but certainly not least, Gamma Phi Beta is over the MOON to announce their percent nights taking place next week to honor their philanthropy Girls On The Run. Tuesday, October 2: Remember when I mentioned not being able to justify buying a blouse, or jeans, or earrings? Okay, anything really. Entourage Boutique is allowing the girls of Gamma Phi to hold a percent night ALL DAY. Just make sure to mention the sorority when you check out. Hit up Entourage and then head to KKG’s SINGO! in your new ‘fit.

Friday, October 5: From 5-8 p.m., Pelican’s SnoBalls is contributing a percentage of all sales to GPhiB, as long as you manage to mention them in between bites of that (ridiculously) delicious Bahama Mama cone.

Wednesday, October 10th: If you’ve got any money left from donating and enjoying yourself at all of these events, take a walk down to Five Points and shop at Vestique. To make the weekend even just a tad better, Saturday, October 20, Chipotle is joining in on the percent night fun.
