How to “Dress-Up” the Oversized T-Shirt

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

Coming to USC from up north, I was not previously familiar with the everyday, oversized, often Greek comfort colors t-shirt phenomenon that exists down south. However, after being here for a year or so, I have come to love this everyday trend.

**Disclaimer: I did go to an all-girls high school, so this look is basically like an extended everyday uniform.

I’ve learned that knowing what I am wearing everyday makes life less stressful, and cuts down your getting ready routine by 12.77889 hours! Anyway, I’m sure not everyone is into this fashion trend, but for those of you who are, have you ever asked yourself, “Is there anyway I can make this look trendier?” I know it’s hard to make something perfect even better, but hey lets give this a try! Here are some Pinterest-inspired ideas to incorporate into your “uniform” (and you definitely won’t get a demerit for bending the rules on this one!)

1. This first look is great for colder weather. Next time it gets a little chilly outside, try adding a flannel instead of your (uniform) sweatshirt.

2. Going along with the fall-winter inspired idea, why not add a scarf and vest zip up to your simple shirt? You could even add a scarf to the look.

3. Now personally, I think this next one hits it out of the park. Instead of pairing your t-shirt with the ever-so casual leggings and Nikes, switch it up and try out a pair of distressed jeans with Vans or Converse. I realize this look is probably too much for some (oh, am I referring to myself again?) but if you’re feeling motivated try this outfit out!

4. Opt for a chunky, oversized sweater over top of your tee. This look is great if it’s windy on campus, but not knee-trembling cold. If it happens to be colder, add a scarf or jacket that compliments your sweater!

5. Layers! I am a huge fan of layers (yes, again, I am from the north). Layers are great for when you have a packed schedule and have to be on campus for an extended amount of time. Wearing layers will insure that you are never too hot or cold. For this look, we added a sweater and a jacket to our t-shirt, paired with a scarf and boots!
