What Does Your Halloween Costume Say About You?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Southern Miss chapter.

It can be very difficult to choose a Halloween costume that gets the right balance of scary but clever, cute but funny, and you just know that everyone is going to instantly judge you depending on your outfit. So what does your Halloween costume say about you?

The Pop Culture Reference

You want to show the world that you’re up to date and always know what’s on trend. You put a lot of effort into thinking up the cleverest reference that unfortunately in a year’s time when looking back at the photos no one will understand.

Examples: The latest celebrity train wreck (Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes etc.) or a character from a show like Breaking Bad or Mad Men.

The Funny/Quirky

Although you might have to spend the night explaining your costume to people and it may not make you look good that’s not the point, you want to be noticed and applauded for your hard work and clever idea.

Examples: Some sort of household object or food.

The Actually Scary

You scoff at all these silly costumes that have nothing to do with Halloween and embrace your inner goth with as much fake blood as you can find. Probably a little bit weird, but who isn’t, you aim to be genuinely terrifying to everyone you meet.

Examples: Zombie, Monster, anything that looks like it’s been seriously wounded.

The Sexy Animal

As long as people think you look hot you don’t care what else they’ll say about you. You’re not afraid to commit to your costume and fully embrace the inner sexiness of your animal of choice.

Examples: Sexy cat, sexy fish, sexy squirrel etc.

The Superhero/villain

For just one night you want to be your fantasy alter-ego, the dark and brooding Batman, the muscle-bulging Hulk, or the Amazonian Wonder Woman. In reality you’re more of a Clark Kent.

Examples: Iron Man, Catwoman, The Flash
