Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of self reflection, and with my 20th birthday coming up, I thought I’d share 5 of the most important lessons I’ve learned by 20!
- It’s OK not to have everything figured out!
In high school, I feel like it was super common for teachers to tell you that you should know what you want to do with your life by college, but that is not the case! College advisors, professors, etc. do not expect you to know exactly what you want to do in life. In fact, they encourage exploring a variety of topics before sticking to something. I’m almost halfway through college and still don’t know what I want to do, and that’s totally OK!
- Everybody is too focused on their own insecurities to notice yours
I’m a very insecure person, and one thing I’ve realized is that nobody is sitting there critiquing all my flaws, and if they are, then that’s… a whole other issue.
- Taylor Swift’s 6th studio album reputation changed my life.
No explanation needed.
- Therapy! Is! Important!
When I first decided to go to therapy, I was terrified, but it was the best choice I’ve ever made. I’ve done so much work on myself with my therapist and I don’t know where I would be without her. I feel very lucky to be able to go to therapy and while I realize it is not accessible for everyone, I highly encourage those who have the option to go, to go! You can do it! I believe in you!
- It’s all going to be ok
Throughout my life, I’ve experienced some very high highs and very low lows, and the one piece of advice that has gotten me through the low lows is that things will get better. Even when it seems like they won’t, they will, I promise!
I’ve probably missed a ton of lessons that I would put on this list, but these 5 (especially number 3) have been the most prominent in my life. Here’s to 20!
