The second weekend of Coachella is this weekend, and I’ve been enjoying looking at all of the festival style. Some of the looks I’ve seen are very cute and appropriate for hot desert weather, but some aren’t. Most of the outfits worn by celebrities at Coachella are outright ridiculous. Do you really want to be wearing a heavy, hot metal choker all day at a music festival surrounded by sweaty crazy music lovers? Probably not. Most of us don’t have a touch up glam team at a phone click away, so dressing practically for Coachella is the safer bet for the majority of us.
Here are some outfits that I would endorse wearing to Coachella:
This For Love and Lemons slip is cute and comfortable because of the sheer fabric. It won’t cling to your body in the desert sun, and it will blow around in the breeze. You could wear a slip underneath it, or two piece swim set, as it looks like Jamie Chung did.
Sara Sampaio is the perfect mix of stylish and smart. She wore all white, to reflect the heat. (Perhaps she didn’t do this intentionally but I rest my case…) The layers of this outfit will allow her to add and remove throughout the day, for optimal coolness. I would actually recommend wearing boots to a festival if you can, because they will protect your feet from the thousands of other people stomping around and jumping. If you get into a scuffle, your Coachella experience will still go on as planned.
Louise Roe hit it on the nail with this Coachella outfit. Her feet are covered, she has a jacket layered around her waist for the evening, and she has a hat to protect her face from the sun. I would consider this outfit to be the “holy grail” of Coachella outfits. Cutoff denim shorts and a light top would be something I would wear to Coachella in order to be comfortable winding my way through the crowds listening to my favorite acts. While it isn’t necessarily making the biggest statement at the festival, you’ll be happy you opted for this look.
Again, Hailey Clauson is wearing a variation of the “holy grail” Coachella outfit. 1. Feet are covered. Cool. 2. Sunnies. Eyes are protected. Check. 3. Light top, denim cutoffs. Perfect. If she wore a bralette under the white top, if it got too hot she could unbutton the shirt and tie it around her waist, or leave it open to airflow. I’m in love with this. Finally some practicality!
So in short, if you are going to go hard at Coachella, please dress smart. No one wants to show up to an event they are super excited about just to leave early all over an outfit. Wear a variation of one of these looks, and you’ll be sure to have a great time.
Happy festival season!
