Halloween is just a few days away, and if you’re anything like me, you still haven’t found your costume yet. With the window to order online closing rapidly and halloween sections at stores selling out, the options are limited. Not to worry! Here are a few easy last minute halloween costumes you can either put together with items you already have in your closet or easily DIY. Whether you’re looking for a stand alone, duo, or group costume, I’ve got you covered!

Stand Alone Costumes:

1. Regina George

This Mean Girls costume is incredibly easy, albeit a little bold. All you need is a white tank top and a purple bra/undershirt. Cut two holes out of the tank top right over your chest so the purple bra/undershirt shows through, creating one of Regina George’s most iconic moments. Ideally, you could add a black tennis skirt to complete the look, but if you don’t have one, people will still get the reference.

2. Rosie the Riveter

All you need for this costume is a denim/blue button up and a red bandana. Tie your hair up, use the bandana as a headband, and roll up your sleeves and you’re ready to go. We can do it!

3. Fifty Shades of Grey

A bit of a play on words, this one requires a bit of crafting. Go to any paint store and pick out 50 various shades of grey paint samples (they’re usually free). Use fabric glue, hot glue, or even tape to attach the paint chips to a grey sweatshirt or t-shirt and there you go: 50 Shades of Grey.

4. Cold Bernie Sanders

To recreate Bernie’s iconic look from the inauguration all you need is your winter jacket, your favorite pair of mittens, and a classic blue disposable mask. You’ll be warm and COVID safe in this show-stopping look. Don’t forget to strike his crossed arm pose whenever you get the chance to sit down!

Duo/Couple Costumes:

  1. Sun and Moon

Perfect for bffs, all you need for this look is one person to dress in all yellow and one in all blue or silver. Pair with gold jewelry for the sun and silver for the moon. This costume also provides the opportunity to do some incredible makeup looks if you’re into that. Basic face-paint could also add some flair.

2. Bob Ross and a Happy Little Tree

All you need for Bob Ross is a light blue button up, some paintbrushes, either a wig or curly hair (optional), and a fake beard. For a happy little tree go with a green top of any kind. You can attach fake leaves, sticks, or even pipe cleaners with hot glue to complete the look. You’ll be the stars of any halloween party.

3. Sulley and Boo from Monsters Inc.

For Sulley’s costume, use a teal colored sweatshirt/t-shirt. Get purple felt (or any other material) and cut out spots to attach all over the sweatshirt. For Boo all you need is an oversized pink t-shirt, leggings (preferably purple) and white shoes. Tie your hair into pigtails to complete the look. If you want to make it a trio, throw in Mike Wazowski with a green shirt and a DIY felt eye in the middle: cut a large white circle, a smaller green circle, and an even smaller black circle, glue them all together and paste it on.

Group Costumes:

1. M&M’s

This easy group costume is low maintenance, comfortable, and cute. Have every person in your group get a different color t-shirt, use a stencil to cut the iconic M out of white felt and glue one onto the center of each shirt.

2. Spice Girls

This one is also a bit of a play on words. While of course you could dress like the actual spice girls, what I had in mind was a bit different. Each person in your group would dress up as a different spice: salt, pepper, paprika, coriander, cayenne, any spice you can think of. One option would be to DIY shirts that look like spice packaging, but if that’s too complicated, literally just go to the store, buy your spice of choice, and glue it onto your shirt.

3. Ghosts

All you need for this one is white sheets and sunglasses. Drape the sheet over your head and pop on your sunglasses. If you’re concerned about being able to see, cut out a couple of eye holes. This costume is so low maintenance, but makes for some super cute, super vibey photos.

There you go! You can put these easy costumes together in a flash without having to drop more than a few dollars. Whether you’re dressing up alone, with your S/O, or your bffs, these easy ideas will set you apart at any Halloween get together. Happy Halloween and stay safe!
