I recently came across an Instagram ad for this new indie game called Starbrew Cafe and decided to test it out. The name alone made me think of Stardew Valley, but the game itself is quite different.

I would call this game a cross between Stardew Valley, Hayday, and Merge Mansion. You use a gaming grid to produce coffees, baked goods, sandwiches and more, and by combining two of the same items, you get a more advanced version! You only have so much energy to use to produce these items, of which then you have to wait real time (only a minute 30 seconds for 1 energy) until you can serve customers again.

Meanwhile, there is a cute and compelling storyline being offered about Starla and her aunt who runs the cafe, and all the hidden secrets her and her friends uncover. They all work together to restore the cafe to its former glory, and you help out by raising money by serving customers (who never get angry if you haven’t served them in days, thankfully).

Needless to say, I’ve had it less than a week and I am addicted. It seems like even after you would be done renovating the cafe, there is an entire town available to unlock in the future, and dozens of new items to unlock to create! Overall, I would highly recommend this game to anyone who likes a calm atmosphere, an interesting storyline, and a cute aesthetic!
