I have always made it a habit to try new places, find those hidden gems with flavor-enriched food, but affordable prices. Of all the food places in Seattle that I’ve tried from Mediterranean, Thai to even American, there is one restaurant that has a place close to my heart. A site that combines not only enriched flavors but an experience like none other. A place filled with welcome, excitement, and community all in one? I introduce you to the amazing flavors that come from the Argentinean restaurant, Boca.
Marco, the owner of this restaurant, was born and raised in Argentina, but really learned about cooking in Spain. He’s traveled the world from Mexico to Kilimanjaro, Africa working in many different restaurants, trying many different types of food to refine his palate. Owning over 30 different restaurants in Mexico, Argentina, and the U.S., this man not only knows what to cook but how to cook it perfectly. You may have heard of Cactus, the Mexican restaurant? This guy is the original owner!
But Handrae? What kind of foods are there offered at this restaurant? What should I choose? Well, you are lucky because I’ve tried a great number of dishes so I can give you a full review of the many delights of Boca.
Top Seller: Churrasco
Boca is known for its meat. Their churrasco, seared thin cut Sirloin steak with homemade chimichurri, is filled with flavor. Because the meat is cut so thin, the meat combined with herby flavors becomes so much more prominent. Argentina is known for its steaks and there’s a reason why. This mouth-watering dish will have you coming back for more.
Milanesa de Carne or de Pollo
This isn’t your average breaded chicken or meat. The thinly cut meat and poultry extinguish flavors. Served with fried eggs, the flavors melt in your mouth. They combine so perfectly you’ll just crave more. Lucky for you though, the portions are fantastic.
Happy Hour Favorite: Lomito Sandwich
My all-time favorite, the Lomito sandwich is a twist to the Peruvian dish Lomo Saltado but even better. The pan-seared meat combined with the onion flavors and tomatoes topped off with lettuce, a fried egg, and a special mayo on a brioche bun is an explosion of flavor. It’s juicy and has the perfect combination of spice and freshness in the food.
Ceviche Mixto
If you have never tried ceviche, oh you are in for a treat. A Peruvian classic, ceviche is typically a fish soaked in lemon, salt, and many other different flavors. Enjoy this amazing seafood dish with their signature ‘Leche de Tigre’ to try something new and exciting! If you aren’t usually a fan of fish, I can bet that you will probably like this one.
Tres Leches Flan
Oh not just any flan, this made-in-the-house flan is the best I’ve had in Seattle. The soft flavors just melt in your mouth so gently. These gentle flavors of the flan mixed with their homemade dulce de leche just take you to another dimension. Come see for yourself!
Panqueque con Dulce de Leche
What better way to savor their dulce de leche than with a show dedicated to them. This thin, french style crepe filled with their dulce de leche is subtle but powerful. The perfect way to end a meal.
Alfajores
When my mother was coming back from her trip to Peru, my grandfather sent her a box of cookies to send to me as a gift. What kind of cookies were they? Alfajores of course. A delicious butter cookie filled with dulce de leche rolled in coconut flakes, and sprinkled with powdered sugar; it’s the absolute perfect cookie to leave with served fresh at Boca! It has such a gentle texture that it’s hard to believe so many sweet delicate flavors that come out of it. Not too sweet or too savory, this cookie is like nonother.
If you are ever looking for a new place to try, look for Boca on Capitol Hill! Tell the owner I say hi! Whether it’s take-out or dine-in, trust me, you’ll be coming back for more.
