Five things I learnt at FS
One of the most anticipated events in a St Andrews student’s diary, this year’s FS did not fail to disappoint. Working behind the bar during the show and at the after party, I got to see all sides of the event, from the immense amount of preparation that goes into making sure everyone has a memorable night, to attempting to clear up after 7 hours of students drinking. Here are some valuable (or not…) life-lessons that I learnt:
1. When opening champagne, aim away from the customers face
Having spent £35 on a bottle, most people don’t appreciate having a clumsy waitress then hit them on the nose with a high-speed cork…
2. Models are seriously grumpy
Not one smile was cracked as they strutted fabulously down the runway. In fact some of them looked like they needed a hug.
3. The customer is not always right
You want to buy 10 double shots of vodka all for yourself? Are you sure? Really??
4. Trying to network with the big corporate guys is not a good idea…
When it’s 3am and you’re covered in alcohol. And wearing a red and black Bacardi bowtie.
5. Students drink a LOT
Like, a lot.
