Freya’s DIY Bubbles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Andrews chapter.

This Week: How to make beautiful bubbles

I was lacking in inspiration this week, however due to recently procrastination tidying/needing to find my floor again, I rediscovered some bubble mix. Accordingly I was transported back to fond memories of a year six science which consisted of blowing bubbles the entire lesson (I’m sure there was some Science in there as well, but I don’t remember), and thought it might be fun to relive my youthful days. There is no excuse not have a go, as literally the only ingredient is soap, and I really hope that you have some of that lying about in your flat. Having spent the whole afternoon blowing bubbles, I can attest that it is not only dogs and babies who love bubbles, but most of my ‘adult’ flatmates. So, in the words of my football team’s favourite song, ‘I’m forever blowing bubbles’, and I really think that you should be too.

What you need:

Washing up liquid

Water

Wand

Optional:

Sugar

Food colouring

Firstly pour 80ml washing-up liquid into a bowl and add 300ml of water

Next add two of teaspoons of sugar and stir well until the sugar has dissolved.

If feeling particularly adventurous, and want to create extra pretty bubbles, add a drop of food colouring.

Mix again.

Finally enjoy blowing beautiful bubbles; however be aware that the mixture works better if left for a day.
