When it comes to gifting, we all have that special person in our life that seems virtually impossible to buy for. Whether it’s family, a friend, or significant other, this guide will redirect that gifting stress into finding perfectly curated options for your holiday and event success. Don’t worry, each product mentioned in this article will be linked below with photos!
Now let’s begin this process by establishing who you are buying for and then ask yourself the three most important questions: ‘Do they need anything?’, ‘What can I get to make their life a little sweeter?’ and ‘How can my gift make them feel special?’ After you’ve pondered the possibilities, maybe something will come to mind. But, if not, I have you covered!
After establishing who to buy for, I find it helpful to dig into what the receiver may need and will use everyday. For example, staple items – like speakers, headphones, shoes, clothes, jewellery, and other electronics – are no-brainers when gift giving. Yet, there are ways to spice up those basics, and impress the receiver in the process. This approach includes focusing on little luxuries that elevate the everyday. Although these items may be things they already have, an upgrade never hurts! For example, try opting for a premium card holder or wallet. This little item may seem like an afterthought, given we all have them, but what makes it a great gift is the simplicity and functionality. I find that not overthinking it and going back to the basics makes gifting much more enjoyable for both the buying and the receiving party. Luckily, I have put together a list of great Christmas gifts in case you have no idea where to start!
When in doubt, personalise! We all enjoy receiving gifts that feel as if they were exclusively selected for us. So, when gift-giving, this season and always, never underestimate the power of personalisation. For instance, monogramming a portfolio or CV cover for a recent graduate just elevates your plain gift with a little flair, something no one is sure to forget. Another tried and true option could be personalised jewellery and leather goods. My personal favourites can be found on Etsy.
But wait, I know what you’re thinking, what if by personal you meant something you make or take part in creating? In that case, I have the perfect solution for you! The chic-est gift you can give someone is a copy of a book with a specially dedicated handwritten message on the inside cover. (Don’t forget to sign your name and the date along with your message!) Unless you know the kind of books the receiver likes, options range from cook books to classic novels, with the opportunities here being endless. Not only will this gift last forever, but it will also create a shared memory (and it can’t possibly get more unique than that). In case you are not sure about what books to get, get inspired by my selection of books just waiting to be personalised!
