If you have a hectic schedule like me, then you know the struggles of getting a little bit of downtime in. Last weekend, I was able to do just that, get the well-deserved “me time” after working a part-time job, being a full-time student, and ROTC cadet. I laid back and watched one of my favorite shows on Netflix called “Greenleaf.” Greenleaf is about a wealthy family in Memphis, Tennessee who owns a megachurch by the name of “Calvary Fellowship World Ministries.” To the public, the Greenleafs appear to be kind and godly-like but behind closed doors, it is full of infidelity, lies, and scandals. Which the main character (Grace Greenleaf), discovers after coming back to the family home after twenty years.

The final season did not disappoint. I was really impressed by Lady Mae’s (played by Lynn Whitfield) character development, as well as the character development of AJ Greenleaf (played by Jacob Gibson.) As expected, the season was full of all types of emotions. Especially when all of them decided to take a ride to the church before it was set to close (spoiler alert!) I cried as if that was my church. The writers, producers, and directors definitely did an amazing job when filming the final season. Greenleaf is a show that I will forever have a connection with. I hope they consider a spinoff for Zora, AJ, and Sophia (played by Lovie Simone, Desiree Ross, & Jacob Gibson), in the future. I’d definitely love to see AJ’s journey after he decided to be saved. Or watch Sophia and Zora take over New York while being under the guardianship of Grace.

You can stream Greenleaf on Netflix or on the OWN app.
