Many people ask me why I go to mass, when I don’t identify with a specific religion. Normally I just shrug my shoulders, and say “It’s not always about God.” Which is true at St. John’s Mass. Here are three reasons why I go to Mass.
-
It’s not all about God.
It’s really really true. They speak about doing well in school, stress, personal motivation, achieving your goals, and so much more. Yes, they connect these back to God, but you don’t need to. I sit and ponder in my own head, and think about how what they are preaching can affect me and my personal self.

Closure and new beginnings
When you’ve had a bad week, or even day, and you sit in the pew and reflect on what happened to make it so bad, often times you come to the realization that it could have been much much worse. Sundays nights are also a college student’s worst nightmare. Trying to do that 30 page reading before your 8am class on Monday morning can sound like a brutal task. Personally, I feel a lot more motivated after an hour long Mass, because I feel a little more ready to take on the week.

Learning to Believe
When you don’t believe in God, you need to believe in yourself. Hearing them speak about finding God or Jesus within you, you might also think you need to find yourself within you. You need to believe in yourself, because if you don’t, then who else will?
Student Mass is offered at 11am and 5:30 pm on Sundays.
