Never did I think, during my senior year of college, I would be writing about being a college student during a pandemic, but here I am. This pandemic has undoubtedly affected everyone emotionally and physically. Senior year is the time to have your last hurrah before stepping into the real world. It is especially upsetting being a St. Lawrence student because SLU has the best cultural experience. A majority of those experiences occur during your senior year. COVID-19 took seniors’ last experiences as a St. Lawrence student away from us.
Given the unfortunate circumstances, I believe SLU students have remained resilient and positive throughout this experience. As I sit writing this article, saddened by the experiences I’ve missed out on, I’m proud to say that my Laurentian peers have made this experience bearable. If it wasn’t for my peers, professors, and faculty, dealing with this pandemic as a student would be much worse than it is now.
The experiences many SLU alumni were able to enjoy as seniors will not apply to this year’s class. Traditional SLU experiences have been lost, but the incredible relationships I’ve gained from being a student at St. Lawrence will never be forgotten. SLU is an incredible community and I will always cherish being a part of it.
