What I Like to Do When I Go Home for Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

It is so nice being able to drive home for Thanksgiving Break.  Although the 6-hour drive from Canton, NY to Westchester NY is very scenic, it is also very very long.  When I am home I like to get organized. Doing just a little bit of studying or school-work over break can save you when you return to campus. There is nothing worse than getting back to school after having done nothing and being hit with a million assignments all at once. By chipping away at your work over the break, you can adjust to being back at school and not have the assignments looming over you.

Another thing on my to-do list when I return home is to rebeauticize myself.  I love coming back to school with a fresh haircut, newly painted nails, and an eyebrow wax.  It is so important to reward yourself and create time for yourself. I usually go to the nail salon alone and get a massage.  If I am craving companionship, then I will bring my sister along with me and we can talk during our pedicures. It is so relaxing and looks amazing!

Over break I always find myself looking for new coffee shops.  Even in the coldest weather, I am a sucker for an iced vanilla latte. I love trying to find new places to go to around the Hudson Valley and Fairfield County area.  My favorite coffee hole in the wall right now is Bobo’s Cafe in Somers, NY. They have great iced tea and coffee beverages. You can also pair your drink there with an Acai Bowl or breakfast sandwich. In addition to Bobo’s Cafe, I have also been loving the Starbucks holiday edition drinks. I know that Starbucks is a coffee place that everyone knows about, however, their holiday drinks are always changing. My personal favorites are the Peppermint Mocha and the Caramel Brulee lattes. If you are a tea person then I recommend the Mint Majesty tea! Also, Starbucks is a great place to get your work done while enjoying a nice holiday beverage.

The last thing I prioritize doing when I am home, besides spending time with my friends and family (but mostly my dog), is taking a day trip into New York City.  The train ride is only an hour at most and there is so much to do in the city. During the holidays, I would recommend going to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and window shopping. You can also go ice skating in the city or go to a museum. It is really nice to have a change of pace from Canton, NY once in a while and to experience different things.
