Hey Oles! With all of this rainy weather we’ve been having recently, it’s easy to start feeling down. Waking up and looking out our windows to see grey skies and rain drops pelting the sidewalks makes us want to do nothing more than stay in bed and watch movies for the remainder of the day. Having some good music to listen to can be the key to lifting your spirits and making the gloomy weather not seem quite as awful. Here’s a playlist of the best music to trudge through the mud to class to; just make sure you’ve got that iPod covered in something waterproof!

1. Banana Pancakes- Jack Johnson

“Can’t you see that it’s just raining?/ There ain’t no need to go outside” croons Johnson in his soothing hit from his 2005 album In Between Dreams. Indeed, no truer words have ever been spoken when it comes to gloomy weather. Who wants to leave their dorm room to walk across campus for class when it’s pouring? We sure wish there wasn’t any need to go outside.

2. Second Chances- Gregory Alan Isakov

With its soft acoustic guitar and Isakov’s rich vocals, this track is perfect for curling up in a blanket with a hot drink and a good book. Ironically, “Second Chances” is from Isakov’s 2013 album The Weatherman– he must have known his songs would be great for rainy days!

3. Holocene- Bon Iver

Some songs just feel like they were made for that melancholy mood you get when stuck inside all day. “Holocene” is hauntingly beautiful, and reminds us to find beauty and happiness in even the worst of situations. In other words, why let the weather get you down? Think of how much it helps the earth, and how pretty it will make everything come summer!

4. Blue Skies- Noah & The Whale

Charlie Fink, lead singer of Noah & The Whale, speaks to our hearts when he sings in the first verse “This is a song for anyone/ Who can’t get out of bed”. Preach it, Fink! When it’s gross outside, who in their right mind wants to pop out of bed for their 8am? We’re all for staying in bed the whole day, catching up on our Netflix queues.

5. To Whom It May Concern- The Civil Wars

This singer-songwriter duo have recently established themselves in the music world, and for good reason; their voices flow together effortlessly and create gorgeous melodies that will get stuck in your head for days. Accompanied by a single acoustic guitar, “To Whom It May Concern” is a beautiful song to simply lay on your bed and listen to.

6. This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)- The Lumineers

As an acoustic cover of the new wave band Talking Heads’ dance-y ’80s track, it’s easy to forget that this rendition by The Lumineers is even the same song. The Lumineers use only a guitar, a few strings and a single drum to accompany their vocals, making this unplugged version more appropriate for relaxing on a dreary day.

7. Hold You In My Arms- Ray LaMontagne

Listening to this song is the equivalent of coming home after a bad day, wrapping a thick blanket around yourself and sitting in front of the fireplace with a bucket of cookie dough. It is the ultimate comfort song- let it melt away any rainy day blues you are experiencing and fill you with the warmth of a sunny afternoon.

8. Myth- Beach House

Fresh off of Beach House’s chart topping 2012 album Bloom, “Myth” provides an entrancing sound that perfectly captures the feeling of getting stuck in a rainstorm. The methodical plunking of the harmony sounds like raindrops hitting the rooftop, setting the mood for the entire song. This is an excellent track for any drizzly day, as it adds an air of enchantment to the situation.
