Welcome back to the Hill, Oles! We are lucky to have a great group, the Music Entertainment Committee, that brings musical artists from all over the country right onto campus to play for us (are you checking out Hoodie Allen this weekend?), and we have access to one of the largest music scenes in the nation with the Twin Cities being just a short drive away. If you decide to go to a concert, either in the cities or right here in the Pause, check out this survival guide first to make sure you have everything you need!
Wear comfortable shoes.
You may be itching to break out those fabulous heels you just bought, but trying to get your dance on while wobbling around in stilettos will get old fast, especially when pressed up against hundreds of sweaty strangers. Try some cute sneakers or boots that will protect your toes from getting stepped on. Your feet will thank you later!
Bring only the essentials.
You don’t want to be weighed down by all of your belongings- just bring some money, your ID, water and your phone. Store everything in a small crossbody purse that will leave your hands free for dancing, or a retro fanny pack (they were everywhere during festival season!).
Put your phone away.
Do you really want to be the person who has their phone out the entire concert, filming every single song? Stop trying to get the perfect picture for a while and enjoy the moment. Your phone will also be much safer stored away in your bag than getting waved above the heads of the crowd.
Dress for the elements.
Even if it’s the dead of winter, chances are you’ll get hot inside your concert venue, especially if it’s a high energy act. Dress in layers, so you can adjust to the temperature of your surroundings.
Stay with your group.
Concerts can get rowdy, so make sure you keep track of your friends and have a designated meeting place in case you get separated. It’s better to be safe then sorry!
Go with the flow.
Sometimes the best nights are the ones that don’t go according to plan. Even if you don’t get the seat that you wanted or spilled something on your outfit, let loose and enjoy the show. No matter what happens, you’ll have a great story to tell the next day!
