Hey Fit Friends!
Fall and Winter sports teams are really starting to “rack” up the hours in the weight room. Whether or not you’re a student athlete, though, there’s always room for anyone to get in there and pump some iron! When you think “weight room,” an image of a ripped bodybuilder might pop into your head. Let’s change that, girls, because weights are nothing to be afraid of!
Guidelines for Kicking Butt:
-
Wear proper attire- supportive shoes, supportive sports bra and comfortable, breathable clothing.
-
Push your comfort zone- and use heavier weights! Strength increases when we fatigue our muscles.
-
Don’t be afraid to GRUNT! Weight lifting should not look or sound pretty.
-
Drink, drink, drink- water, that is. And lots of it!
-
Streeetch- especially after your workout!
Here at Ole Fit, we are big believers in weight room safety. If the correct steps and precautions are taken before, during and after a lifting session, accidents and injuries can be prevented. Here are some helpful guidelines you can keep in mind to stay safe and successful in the weight room!
-
Lift with a buddy – having a spotter is essential. We all need to look out for each other.
-
Practice technique – form is important in preventing injury and getting the most benefit out of your workout.
-
When in doubt, ask for help – don’t be afraid to ask someone if you aren’t sure how to perform a lift or use a machine properly! Plus, it’s a great way to break the ice :)
-
Be sure that weight plates are always secure.
-
Be aware of your surroundings, and have a clearly defined area for yourself.
We can’t “weight” to see you in Tostrud!
