Taylor’s Tunes: Christmas tunes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Hey everyone! We’re all aware that Christmas is right around the corner so I thought I’d discuss tunes related to Christmas for this post. To be honest, I’m not a huge Christmas music fan. It’s not that I dislike it, I just don’t seek it out come Black Friday (or earlier, you crazies). So although I don’t have a Pandora station devoted to this particular crop of music, I still have a few songs that I enjoy.

“All I Want For Christmas” by Dirty Boyz

Weren’t expecting this were ya?! Anyway, this song is all about how all the Dirty Boyz want for Christmas is to get crunk (along with some other random stuff like Gucci sweaters, a T-Mobile sidekick etc). Obviously not your conventional Christmas song but it does have a nice beat.

“That Was The Worst Christmas Ever!” by Sufjan Stevens

Sufjan’s entire album Songs For Christmas is definitely worth a listen during this time of year. Technically yes, it is a Christmas album, but Stevens just always does things better than everyone else.

“Holiday” by Weezer

Psych! This song may or may not be about Christmas (probably it isn’t) but it is called Holiday and therefore is fair game (this is my blog, after all). I was serious when I said that I am just not into Christmas music and this song is about as close as I can get. It is really great though.

OK that’s all I have. Just remember that you don’t have to listen to Christmas music just to get into the Christmas mood. Listen to what makes you happy and this stressful time will seem just a tad better.
