Breathe, It’s Only Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Vincent chapter.

Finals are coming and we all find ourselves getting stressed just thinking about all of the work that we have to do.  It seems like we don’t have enough time in the day and like we’re drowning.  There’s so much left in these few days weeks: final assignments, tests, papers, and the dreaded finals week.  Remember these five things when you find yourself getting stressed:

After these next days, you will have a whole month free from school work!  Yeah, you might have a job or have a busy Christmas schedule, but you won’t have to worry about assignments, emailing your professors, or that dreaded test that’s coming up.  You have a whole month to enjoy the holiday with your family and friends.  It’s only four day of your life, and you have so much more time to enjoy the world around you ass soon as you finish that last final!

Your final grades don’t define you.

I know that grad schools and future careers look at your grades, but one grade will not define the rest of your life.  You will survive if you get that one bad grade.  Your life won’t end.  You’ll still get into a good grad school, and you can still get your dream job.  The more you stress, the more you’ll get freaked out!  Remember that you define yourself; your grades do not define you.

Your grade probably won’t be as bad as you think.

We all freak out toward the end about that one final that may make your grade drop.  Professors aren’t all scrooges; they understand that you’re stressed, so that is why many classes have weighted grades.  If you already have a good grade in the class and you generally know what you’re doing, your grade will be fine!

You can move final times if you need to.

Especially for freshmen since you may not know this, if you have back to back finals, just talk to your professor.  Most likely, they will let you schedule another time to take your final so that you don’t have to have your three hardest tests in the same day.

Breathe.

The more stressed that you get, the more likely it is that you’ll forget something.  Stay calm.  Try your best to get your work done, but make sure you take time for yourself.  Your best is good enough and you will survive these four grueling days.

St Vincent '18

Hello there! I am the Campus Correspondent of the Her Campus chapter at Saint Vincent College. As a senior psychology major, I've made the most of my time in undergrad and am excited for all the doors I have opening ahead of me. I can definitely thank Her Campus for giving me invaluable skills. As a future psychologist, I hope that my articles (and the chapter's) are able to make you feel empowered, motivate you to start a conversation, and be kind. As a hero of mine has said, "If you do not take control over your time and your life, other people will gobble it up. If you don't prioritize yourself, you constantly start falling lower and lower on your list."- Michelle Obama. Be the change you want to see in the world, and smile. Always smile!
