Her Campus (HC): Hi Alex! You have been chosen as the Campus Cutie for this week here at Saint Vincent College. We are going to ask you some questions so that the SVC community can get to know you even better. First off- how does it feel to be a senior?
Alex Scialabba (AS): “My feelings are bittersweet… Yeah it’s cliché but it’s true. I’ve met a lot of great people, learned many life lessons, and have had classes that molded me into a better person. It has been a heck of a chapter in my life but it’s time to move on to the next.”
HC: What are your post-graduation plans?
AS: “The next chapter of my life is uncertain, but I know that it deals with working with others. Because my major is criminology, I would like to work with juvenile delinquents- I believe that I can make an impact and can learn from them as well.”
HC: Have you ever traveled outside of the country?
AS: “Yes! I went to Senegal, Africa after my sophomore year with a monk who has had a substantial impact on my life. His name is Father Francois, and it’s where he invited me to stay at his monastery for the summer.”
HC: Where do you dream of traveling to?
AS: “I don’t particularly dream of traveling to a certain place, but I dream of a place where I can be a light for others, and in turn see The Light of God on a daily basis in the highest degree. It may be in Senegal, or it may be in Butler where I grew up.”
HC: Something on your bucket list?
AS: “Speaking perfect French and to go back to Senegal & the Ivory Coast.”
HC: Favorite movie?
AS: “Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.”
HC: Favorite food? Restaurant? (Other than The Shack, of course)
AS: “My mom makes some great spaghetti, but if I were to go out then probably Applebee’s- why? I don’t actually know. But when I go on dates I find myself there every time. Literally every single time.”
HC: Favorite quote or motto?
AS: “Live every day like it’s your last.”
HC: If you could give any piece of advice to underclassmen, what would it be?
AS: “Listen. Listening is the hardest thing. Listening allows you to learn. When you are speaking or thinking what you are going to say next, you don’t learn. In college, we have come to learn, so listen to others. This type of listening builds strong, genuine, lasting relationships.”
