Somedays it seems like the world won’t stop spinning around, but there should always be time set aside for yourself, me time. Yes, I’m talking about that time that you reluctantly put down your school work and tell your friends that you need some space. I know it seems like you couldn’t possibly fit this into your schedule, but I’m telling you know you will thank yourself later. So here are my favorite things to do when I need me time.

1. Painting

Now you don’t have to be Picasso to enjoy some quality painting. Paint what you’re comfortable with, watch a tutorial on YouTube or find a cool idea you saw on Pinterest. Just get inspired and paint.

2. Writing

Once again, you don’t have to write anything significant, sometimes I enjoy journaling as opposed to using writing prompts. Other days, it’s the opposite. Pinterest and Tumblr have a pretty good selection of both journaling and writing topics/prompts.

3. Reading

Take some time from school reading and curl up with that book that you just haven’t seemed to find the time to read. Reading, for myself, takes me to a different place and sometimes you need that in your me time.

4. Photography

If the weather is conducive, I know one of my favorite pastimes is to take nature shots. You don’t have to go anywhere fancy, just take a walk on campus and take pictures as you go. I promise that it’s relaxing and worth your time.

5. Walking

I know this one is simple, but sometimes just taking a walk outside somewhere peaceful can be extremely serene and calm.

Just remember that there’s always time for me time. I promise you that you will thank yourself later for giving yourself this time and space from school work and other friends and getting back in touch with yourself.

St Vincent '18

Hello there! I am the Campus Correspondent of the Her Campus chapter at Saint Vincent College. As a senior psychology major, I've made the most of my time in undergrad and am excited for all the doors I have opening ahead of me. I can definitely thank Her Campus for giving me invaluable skills. As a future psychologist, I hope that my articles (and the chapter's) are able to make you feel empowered, motivate you to start a conversation, and be kind. As a hero of mine has said, "If you do not take control over your time and your life, other people will gobble it up. If you don't prioritize yourself, you constantly start falling lower and lower on your list."- Michelle Obama. Be the change you want to see in the world, and smile. Always smile!
