Why I Write for Her Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Vincent chapter.

When I tell my friends that I write for Her Campus, the first words that come out of their mouth are: What is Her Campus? Now even though I am bombarded by this question often, I still struggle to come up with the right words to explain it. But the best explanation I have found to confide in is: It is a club that supports women empowerment through online writing. Now the second question I always encounter is: Why do you write for Her Campus or what is writing for Her Campus like? Well I’m gonna break this down.

1. Writing for Her Campus is a passion of mine. I love writing in general and it is an amazing way/opportunity to get your work out and into the world. Especially with the background message of Her Campus which is to empower women.

2. Being able to write for Her Campus also allows me to constantly continue fine tuning and improving my writing skills. Which of course is an amazing skill to have during and even after college. I don’t care what profession you are in, you will still be writing.

3. I know that not everyone is a fan of deadlines, but hey it’s part of life. I personally think the fact that we have deadlines for submitting our articles is a fantastic implementation. Having deadlines not only keeps everyone on track, but also greatly helps people who struggle with time management.

4. Another reason I write for Her Campus is to surround myself with a wonderfully amazing group of young women who support and care for each other and every way possible. Through team bonding time to just getting together for group meetings I have definitely met some amazing and powerful women on campus.

5. Lastly, but certainly not least, I write for Her Campus to spread awareness. For example, this month we had a table in our campus lounge for Breast Cancer Awareness. We also are recognizing Domestic Abuse Awareness month by collecting gently used women’s clothing from the different residence halls on campus. Not only do we conduct these events across campus, but we also write about awareness. In fact, you can check out these articles that were written last week about domestic abuse awareness: https://www.hercampus.com/school/st-vincent/domestic-violence-awareness-… and https://www.hercampus.com/school/st-vincent/metoo.

You should definitely consider being a part of such an amazing organization.

Hello there! I am the Campus Correspondent of the Her Campus chapter at Saint Vincent College. As a senior psychology major, I've made the most of my time in undergrad and am excited for all the doors I have opening ahead of me. I can definitely thank Her Campus for giving me invaluable skills. As a future psychologist, I hope that my articles (and the chapter's) are able to make you feel empowered, motivate you to start a conversation, and be kind. As a hero of mine has said, "If you do not take control over your time and your life, other people will gobble it up. If you don't prioritize yourself, you constantly start falling lower and lower on your list."- Michelle Obama. Be the change you want to see in the world, and smile. Always smile!
