BCS Ranking: What This Means to You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stanford chapter.

If you were not at the Coliseum for the epic battle between the Trojans and the Cardinal on Sunday, you missed an instant classic.  But, don’t worry, come November 12, expect another Pac-12 showdown at Stanford Stadium against Oregon.  Football not your thing?  It doesn’t have to be!  Let it be the platform for road trips and weekend getaways galore.  And no better occasion than a bowl game.

Yes, it’s only October, but it’s the second week of the BCS rankings (with you Card ranked #4) and your Cardinal faithful can start to get excited about this postseason.  While we have already locked in bowl eligibility, the atmosphere around the Farm is National Championship or bust.  What this means for your holiday travel season?  Don’t book your tickets just yet if these past few weekends have taught you anything; upsets galore, the National Championship race is still wide-open – if we keep winning.

BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans, Louisiana (January 9, 2012):
Played against the BCS #1 and #2 team, an undefeated Stanford team could end up here with an Oklahoma State loss.  Bowl game, beignets and Bourbon Street could not be a better excuse to miss a few days of classes!

BCS Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California (January 2, 2012):
Don’t rule out the Rose Bowl.  Played against the Pac-12 Champion and the Big 12 Champion, this game is still in the running.  Between a few wins and losses by Arizona State, Oregon, and us, one of us is ending up in Pasadena.  Talk about a great way to start the new year!

BCS Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona (January 2, 2012):
If unranked UConn could make it to Arizona last year, a 1-loss Stanford certainly has a chance. And Trip Advisors calls The Americana in Glendale the number-one tourist destination.  Post-Christmas sales, anyone?

Now say a prayer to the football gods, and let’s keep cheering.  It’s all right now!
