Five Things You Should Have Never Stopped Doing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stanford chapter.

1. Setting a Bedtime
Okay, so we know that you’re no longer five, but scheduling a set time to get to bed every night is not just for children.  Because your body operates on a biological clock, which controls your sleep and wake cycle, it attempts to function according to a normal schedule even when you try to change it.  Try setting your clock back 8 hours from when you need to wake up and stick to it!

2. P.E.
Whether P.E. brings back horrid memories of being the last one picked in kickball or total domination at every sport, physical education should not end after the 8th grade.  The CDC recommends 150 minutes per week of moderate physical activity.  That’s only about 20 minutes per day!  In addition to controlling weight, exercise combats health conditions, improves mood, boosts energy, and promotes better sleep.  Talk about a miracle drug.

3. Playdates
Remember the days when your mom would coordinate playdates with friends to play in the park?  Just because you have a problem set and a midterm does not mean you should let your friends fall by the wayside.  Connecting with friends improves your mood and helps alleviate stress.  So, go ahead and take a study break.  It’s Her Campus approved.

4. Ballet, Piano…
Tennis lessons, ballet class, and piano lessons –talk about the quintessential childhood activities.  Though these may be a thing of the past, the notion of getting involved should not be.  Make sure to get involved beyond the classroom.  It is a great way to meet new people and connect with people who have similar interests.

5. Saturday Morning Cartoons
Did it get any better than Rugrats, Spongebob Squarepants and Rocket Power?  I don’t think so!  But can this apply today?  Certainly!  Make sure to grant yourself time to veg out and ignore your work for just a few hours.  Clearing your mind is the perfect way to revitalize.
