6 DIY Skincare Treatments to Keep Your Summer Shine and beat the Winter Look

We have all had those moments when we look at the mirror and automatically think to ourselves, I look prettier when I am tan. And yes, even though we are in Florida, when winter comes we all get that less than luminous look because of how dry and crusty the dry weather makes our skin.

Beat the look and keep your summer shine with these 6 DIY skin treatments that focus on the most important parts of the body! Not only are these treatments cheaper than anything you buy in the store, they are easily put together for a 5-10 minute cleanse you can do anytime of the day!

1. THE MASK

Vanish those acne scars and traces of Eczema!

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons of Honey

1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon

1 Teaspoon of Nutmeg

Directions:

1.    Mix honey, cinnamon and nutmeg. The consistency should be like a thick paste.

2.    After it’s all mixed, apply the mask to your face and let it sit for 30 minutes.

2. The De-Puffer

For those of you who are like me and wake up with extremely puffy eyes know that it is the worst look and way less than attractive. Using this recipe will actually get rid of those puffy eyes and help increase your relaxation level.

Ingredients:

2 chamomile tea bags or 2 slices cucumber

Directions:

1.    Make a cup of tea for you and a friend.

2.    Remove tea bags and place in refrigerator until chilled.

3.    Place cool tea bags on closed eyes for 10 minutes. Or put cucumber slices in fridge until chilled.

4.    Place over closed eyes for 10 minutes.

3. The Glow

During the months of Winter, skin loses its “glow” because of the lack of Vitamin D (otherwise known as sun). To fix this problem this exfoliation scrub is very helpful!

Ingredients:

Sugar

Seasalt

Plain Yogurt or Whole (not instant) Oatmeal.

Water

Rosemary Oil

Coconut Oil

Honey

Dark Cocoa or Cinnamon

The amount varies depending on how sensitive your skin is.

Directions:

1.    Start with two tablespoons of salt and one tablespoon of sugar.

2.    Combine with a few drops of olive or coconut oil or honey to create a paste. You can also add essential oils to create a certain aroma or therapeutic benefit.

3.    For a sweet and spicy antioxidant boost, add one-eighth to one-quarter teaspoon of dark cocoa and/or cinnamon.

4.    For a hydrating treatment add in either plain yogurt or whole oatmeal.

5.    For a final touch, add some rosemary oil.

6.    Apply the scrub in a gentle, circular motion for five to ten minutes, depending on the sensitivity of your skin and the coarseness of the scrub.

4. The Texture

Use this remedy to replace the crusty-looking skin Winter may create with a soft radiating complexion.

Ingredients:

Greek yogurt

Lemon slice

1 Teaspoon of Apricot Kernal Meal (sugar or salt works as well)

Facial Oil

Directions:

1.    Spoon a little bit of the Greek yogurt into a bowl.

2.    Add the juice of one lemon slice and about a teaspoon of the kernel meal.

3.    Mix together and apply to your face.

4.    Leave it on for about 15 minutes, then use it as a scrub, wash it off with cold water and then pat your face dry.

5.    Then apply facial oil of your choice right away.

5. The Lips

Recipe:

4 oz Cocoa Butter

2 oz Coffee Butter

.6 oz Avacado Oil

20 Classy Lip Pots

Directions:

1.    In a small heat-safe container, use a microwave to melt the Cocoa Butter. It helps to break it down to the smallest chunks possible before heating it or you can mix it with the Avocado Oil to help the butter melt down smoothly. Cocoa butter has a higher melting point that other solid oils, so be sure your heat-safe container is able to withstand prolonged temperatures and if it’s glass, remove it from the microwave with a pot holder.

2.    Add the Coffee Butter to the Cocoa Butter and stir until the Coffee Butter is completely melted and the mixture is no longer cloudy (you may have to zap it in the microwave for a few more seconds).

3.    Add the Avocado Oil and mix well (if you didn’t already during the Cocoa Butter melting phase).

4.    Line up the Classy Lip Pots (sans lids) and pour the mixture into the containers. Allow mixture to harden. Twist on the lids and enjoy!

5.    For a more sweet taste of the chapstick, add Splenda or Sugar!

Ingredients:

2/3 Parts Jojoba Oil

1/6 Parts Tamanu Oil

1/6 Parts Sea Buckthorn Oil
