Mark Nagrani, the senior Pre-Med student and otherwise known as Jakobe, has risen the ranks and is on his way to becoming the star that all of us dream of, but never pursue. Ever since hearing Eminem’s Marshall Mather’s LP, Nagrani knew he had a passion for all things hip-hop, and rap. Although many on campus have only come to know Nagrani as Jakobe, the artist only came out as Jakobe less than a year ago.
Nagrani’s passion of rapping only started picking up three years ago in 2011 while rapping in a friends car for fun. Using Caskey, a fellow Floridian, as inspiration, the music reflects a very live and creative depiction of real-life events. There isn’t one type of song that Jakobe creates his music from, his mixtapes hold a very diverse selection of songs that appeal to all listeners.Â
In 2011, Nagrani came out with his first mixtape, Tank Tee’s and DC’s, under his former artist name, Jetson. Following the first mixtape came “The Study Guide”. In getting more serious, Nagrani decided to change his name to Jakobe, and since then has come a long way with two new mixtapes: Reintroduction and Skeptical, with many more songs on the way. If you listen to Nagrani’s lyrics, you become familiar with who he is and what he stands for. The lyrics consist of life changing experiences, and emotions. One could even say that music is Nagrani’s creative journal. What makes Jakobe’s music different from anything else you hear on the radio is that once the lyrics are recorded, they are never changed.
Currently, Nagrani’s favorite song is called “Heartbreak” from his most recent mixtape: “Skeptical”. The song is a deep and real song about a past break up and moving on from the hurt. It expresses himself and how he connects with people and how he became vulnerable through his music by getting thoughts off his chest. It’s relatability has put it at the top of our music favorites and many others!

Currently, Mark is focusing on shooting videos, creating a street team, starting a t-shirt line, and creating new music with original beats. From rapping as a hobby to making his dream come a reality, Nagrani is an inspiration to us all looking to live out our own dreams!
