Alright ladies, we’ve all been there. Standing in the Target checkout line, buying only your absolute essentials, but then, the display of EOS lip balm catches your eye, forcing you to answer the dreaded question: “Is the extra three dollars really worth it?” EOS lip balm not your thing? Imagine you’re standing in line at Chipotle contemplating what household item you’ll have to hold out on this week so that you can afford chips and guacamole. For some, the extra three dollars may be nothing, but others will find themselves thinking about the five dollars they spent on a 20 piece chicken McNugget meal two months ago and feel nothing but an immense pang of regret.
Whatever our guilty pleasures are, being a full-time student doesn’t leave much wiggle room in our wallets. Working while going to school full-time is exhausting and to say that is still an understatement. However, it’s nearly impossible to go without an income!
It’s no secret that college students aren’t the most desirable candidate choice for most employers. For most of us at Stockton University, Galloway isn’t our hometown. In fact, a large majority of us live at least a half hour away. It’s difficult to find a job that not only works with our school schedule, but also, understands and accepts the fact that come summer and winter breaks, we won’t be able to make the commute to work. Employers don’t want to hire employees that can only work a few months out of the year. Vice versa students don’t want to work for employers that don’t understand that school is a priority.
Luckily, there may be a solution to the hassle of job-hunting for us desperate college students. Introducing WayUp, an online database that helps college students find jobs in their area. The website allows you to sign up (for free) and complete a virtual profile and resume. Employers also create a profile and post jobs that are specifically targeted towards college students. Students are able to apply to a large range of entry level positions or even for internships within their field of study.
If you’ve job hunted before, the website is similar to SnagAJob or Indeed, but employers that post on WayUp want to work with your school schedule and understand that you may only be able to work during the school year. Some companies that have jobs posted on the website include Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Make A Wish and Dropbox. Additionally, businesses that post on the website are able to search through the student database to encourage specific students to apply to their open positions.
WayUp brings the immediacy of the internet to the hassle of job hunting and creates an easy solution to your financial worries. So, for those of you on your last pack of Ramen noodles or squeezing the toothpaste tub to the last drop, perhaps introducing yourself to WayUp will help you afford everything from your daily essentials to your guilty pleasures!
