5 Ways to Spruce up Your Dorm for Spring Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

1. Dump all those notebooks, papers, and unnecessary supplies from last semester! If you haven’t already, you’ll revel in that extra space, even a few weeks in.

2. Hang up some new pictures on your walls. You’ve been staring at the same bunch of pictures for the entire fall semester! Bring in some fresh faces, new scenery, and bright colors.

3. Reorganize your space! We all know dorms are extraordinarily small, especially if you’re living with a person or two. Stack those books instead of spreading them around the room, check out whatever has been under your bed, and organize your desk. Even if you don’t use it for studying, less clutter = less stress!

4. If you’ve got some sort of interesting smell going on, get rid of it. Clean up your junk, open a window, maybe even invest in an air freshener. When you’re cooped up in your room with sporadic – yet still stifling – heat, it’s easy for your tiny dorm room to get very, very stuffy.
5. Let some light in! As tempting as it is to draw your curtains and block out the cold, grey world, just letting some natural light in your room makes everything seem brighter. Besides, fluorescent lights can be a real pain on the eyes.
