6 Dessert Places to Visit in NYC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

If you love dessert (and I know you do), you might be wondering where you should go for your next sugar fix. Look no further, because if you live in New York City or anywhere near it, you have a whole wealth of options from which to choose. With so many new, hipster dessert joints popping up everywhere around the city, you’re sure to find something that will satisfy your sweet tooth. Check out some of the following dessert places that you and your friends can visit the next time you venture into the Big Apple.

1. Max Brenner

Location: 841 Broadway, New York, NY 10003

While this is not strictly a dessert place, as it’s a full-fledged restaurant, Max Brenner has some pretty noteworthy desserts. With its own full dessert menu, this restaurant includes everything chocolate-based, from decadent hot chocolate to sweet waffles to chocolate chunks pizza, as well as an assortment of other chocolate confections.

2. Spot Dessert Bar

Various locations

Another popular dessert place, this chain restaurant offers a number of signature desserts that you may already be familiar with. Many are green tea-based, such as the chocolate green tea lava cake, the matcha garden, and the green tea-ramisu, so if you love green tea it’s definitely a recommended place to visit.

3. Soft Swerve

Location: 85B Allen St, New York, NY 10002

For those of you into exotic ice cream flavors, Soft Swerve may be a match made in heaven. With flavors such as ube purple yam and macapuno coconut, a variety of toppings, and even “swerve specials” with interesting names (think “Mott and Mulberry” and “Brooklyn Bridge”), this ice cream place is sure to captivate your attention right away and leave you craving more.

4. 10 Below Ice Cream

Various locations

If you’re craving something other than traditional ice cream, you may want to try rolled ice cream instead. With a variety of interestingly named flavors, from “I Love You A Latte” to “Ain’t Got No Thai Fo’ Dat,” as well as unlimited toppings, the ice cream is rolled right in front of you, so you get to witness the magic before your very eyes.

5. Black Tap

Various locations

While Black Tap is pretty well known for its burgers, salads, and beer, something you don’t want to miss out on is their famous milkshakes, specifically, the “crazy shakes.” You’re sure to have seen at least a video or two displaying these monstrous shakes, dripping sugar and frothed in whipped cream. Having been once, I can say that it is definitely worth trying. Just a fair warning, though: finishing the entire thing is not for the faint of heart. I, sadly, could not finish mine.

6. Eileen’s Special Cheesecake

Location: 17 Cleveland Pl, New York, NY 10012

A small, cute storefront in SoHo, Eileen’s Special Cheesecake might be easy to miss unless you’re looking for it. For all you cheesecake lovers out there, this is the place to be. Not only are there full-sized cheesecakes, but there are also mini, personal-sized cheesecakes for you to enjoy on the spot.
