Being accepted to be an Extern for this years Her Campus NYC College Fashion Week Show was pretty awesome. I applied on a whim and had only been a part of this awesome platform for about two weeks, but said “why not?” I sent in my application the day it was due. Thinking I wasn’t gonna get it and how big New York is, I was surprised to get a email back a couple of days later saying that I got accepted. The email was from Cara Chiaramonte, the Her Campus Media Community Development Manager, who I found out later I would be working with side by side the day of the show. Excited, I accepted the opportunity, not really sure what to expect. Saturday October 1st finally came and I made the trek from Stony Brook University on Long Island all the way to Manhattan. The place was kinda of tricky to find due to all the reconstruction surrounding the building but after passing the entrance about five times, I found it. When I got there at 11AM, the venue was filled with staff, boxes, and more boxes. Not sure of the work ahead of me I got started helping with whatever needed to be done, from unpacking the goodie bags being handed out to the attendees, to organizing clothes on hangers. Throughout this, I connected with externs like myself and the staff, as we bonded through hard work and tenacity. It was fun seeing all the pieces come together slowly but surely, as we worked hard to bring everything together. Lunch and Dinner came and went as showtime fastly approached at 6 o’clock. I was happy to work in the front with sign ins and registrations and greet so many beautiful people. It turned out to be a packed show. The different vendors at the show had lines of people lined up, to either get their eyebrows done at the Brow Bar by European Wax Center or their makeup done by two fabulous makeup artists, and much more. The models, perfectly dressed up in Fall’s newest trends and accessories, walked the runway fiercely as people looked on. When the show came to an end around 9PM, I was tired but happy with the results. I helped my staff clean up and took some last minute photos with them all.
Being a part of this show was not only a great experience but something I never thought possible till I joined Her Campus Stony Brook! It was so cool seeing what it was like to put together a real life fashion show and meeting the Her Campus Media President Windsor Hanger Western and Her Campus Media CPO Annie Wang, two inspirational women live in action. Of course the bonus of walking away with a VIP goodie bag was definitely the cherry on top to a awesome busy filled Saturday.Â
Thanks Her Campus for a great time!
