Where to Visit
I have been to Bangkok 7 times as my family live just outside the city, therefore it’s fair to say I’m sort of a pro. Bangkok can appeal to a wide range of people from backpackers to a couples’ holiday. There are endless things to do and its often difficult to squeeze it all in when you’re only there for a couple of days. But here is my top recommendation on things to do:
1. Grand Palace and Wat Arun The temple and the palace are something you definitely cannot miss when you are visiting Bangkok. Make sure to dress appropriately with arms and legs covered as there is a strict dress code.
2. Floating market When visiting Bangkok be sure to visit the floating market. You can cheaply and easily book the excursion through hotels and tour operators. It is an early start at roughly 6am to get to the market for opening, but it is definitely worth it. You can travel down the river on boats and see what the market has to offer. Beware! Some things are sometimes overpriced here so be sure to negotiate.
3. Chatuchak Market The market is primarily open at the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, however, I’m certain some of it is open every day. This market will literally have everything you can think of, from shoes to handbag, and even pets!
4. Ride on Tuk Tuk The roads in Bangkok can often be manic but the most fun way to get around is by Tuk Tuk. Definitely take a ride on one of these!
Where to Eat
Thai food is world famous therefore you will undoubtedly find the most delicious food in Bangkok. My favourite restaurant is called Cabbages and Condoms, stange isn’t it? The restaurant is covered in condoms and there are full statues made purely from condoms. Even through the concept is a little strange, the food is delicious! Make sure to get a table outside because its it very pretty at night. However, if you’re on a bit of a budget it may be better just to try some street food. Food is everywhere in Bangkok and the street food is great! Try some Phad Thai which will get made right in front of you.
Where to Drink
Alcohol is cheap in Thailand and I love their local beer, Chang and Singha. Bangkok is a very lively city with plenty of bars and clubs, although there is also a red light district which you may want to avoid if that’s not your scene. If you’re on a budget and want a good night out then definitely head to Khaosan Road which is backpacker central. Cheap drink and a crazy night out. Although if you fancy something classier then definitely try a sky bar. There are many in Bangkok, but I definitely recommend the sky bar at Baiyoke Sky Hotel and the one at the dome at Lebua State Tower.
