Buying outfits for a night out can always be a hassle and often quite expensive if you are not willing to wear the same outfits on repeat. Many fall into the trap of buying a new top or a skirt on each occasion which turns out only matches one specific item in their wardrobe. It is a vicious, and costly, circle, however, here is my ‘list of staples’, 4 items that can be worn on multiple occasions, but in very different ways so it looks as though you have just purchased a brand spanking new outfit every time.

#1 Blazer or Top?

A classic black blazer is a great staple for your wardrobe as it can class up any outfit, whether you are wearing a simple t-shirt with jeans and heels or a dress. However, it can also pass off as a fancy top. By simply applying a belt around the waist, over the blazer, the once plain jacket becomes a top!

This Asos black blazer is a fine material and is unstructured making it easier to apply a belt around the middle, like this simple one above from Zara.

#2 White Shirt

It is impossible to go wrong with a plain, crisp, white shirt as they are so versatile and can be adapted to almost any outfit. While this classic piece can be worn during the day, paired with a skirt or jeans it can be the making of a great ensemble for a night out. Below are 3 ways of wearing a shirt that will completely jazz up your outfit.

#3 Leather skirt

A leather skirt is a must have in everyone’s wardrobe. It never dates and it is just about the only skirt you will be able to get away with wearing over and over again as it goes with every top/shirt/jumper imaginable. It can be worn on both a casual and dressy night out making it the perfect item to have at hand, here are a few examples of how best to wear it:

#4 The basic Tee

Having a selection of basic T-shirts is always handy when it comes to having a serious wardrobe malfunction, they can work wonders with a great variety of skirts, plus, trousers and jeans depending on the occasion. The key to securing this look is to stick with basic colours, only white, grey, black or nude and strictly no patterns to ensure that it looks effortless, and not as though you have picked one out of your bottom drawer!

You can find Basic T-shirts in the majority of major fashion retailers, Zara in particular do a wide range of styles for good prices.
