Top 4 80s Movies!
The 80s was undoubtedly an AMAZING decade for film, especially with the emergence of ‘The Brat Pack’, appearing together in a number of coming-of-age films that changed cinema forever. Although every Brat Pack film was unforgettable (I mean, who doesn’t love Molly Ringwald??), Her Campus Strathclyde has compiled a list of the top 4 films from the 80s that you have to watch:
1) The Outsiders
‘The Outsiders’ tells the story of a rivalry between two gangs in a small American Town, with an all-star cast including Rob Lowe and Tom Cruise- a must-see for any 80s lover!
2) St Elmos Fire
‘St Elmo’s Fire’ follows a group of friends who have just graduated college and are experiencing ‘adult-life’ for the first time, and the problems this presents- one of HC Strath’s Favourites! (don’t worry, we all still have another few years of blissful ignorance before we can relate to this one!)
3) Pretty in Pink
A true classic! If you haven’t already seen ‘Pretty in Pink’ then shame on you! Set in a typical American High School, it explores love and social cliques, and growing up in general! (If the clip below of John Cryer performing ‘Try a Little Tenderness’ isn’t enough to convince you, I don’t know what will!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rOvNBXxYXk
4) The Breakfast Club
Saving the best till last, ‘The Breakfast Club’ truly defined the 80s film scene and still to do this day is viewed as one of the best coming-of-age films of all time. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will have ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’ playing in your head for at least a week! (You will also develop a weird crush on Judd Nelson, just to warn you…)
