2015 Oscar Predictions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

The 2015 Oscars will air on February 22nd! There are 8 amazing movies nominated for Best Picture and extremely talented nominees for Best Actor and Actress. But who will come out as the winner? Here are some of my predictions for the upcoming Oscars!

The Nominees for Best Picture:

“Boyhood”

“Birdman”

“The Imitation Game”

“The Theory of Everything”

“The Grand Budapest Hotel”

“American Sniper”

“Whiplash”

“Selma”

Will Win: “Boyhood”

Should Win: “Boyhood”

My Opinion: “The Theory of Everything”

Although everyone is saying that it will be a close race between “Boyhood” and “Birdman”, I personally think that “The Theory of Everything” deserves the Oscar. For anyone that has not seen it, GO SEE IT! It’s definitely my favorite movie of the year so far. You’ll laugh, cry… it’s a movie worth seeing. The story leaves you wanting to know what will happen next and the emotional aspect intrigues you right away. It’s a true story that is extremely sad and serious but at the same time will give you hope. You won’t regret seeing this movie.

The Nominees for Best Actor:

Eddie Redmayne, “The Theory of Everything”

Michael Keaton, “Birdman”

Benedict Cumberbatch, “The Imitation Game”

Bradley Cooper, “American Sniper”

Steve Carell, “Foxcatcher”

Will Win: Eddie Redmayne, “The Theory of Everything”

Should Win:  Michael Keaton, “Birdman”

My Opinion: Eddie Redmayne, “The Theory of Everything”

Eddie Redmayne will win this category without a doubt. His performance in “The Theory of Everything” was flawless. Having to portray a man with ALS must have been difficult to grasp and understand such a complex character both physically and mentally. The amount of time and effort that Redmayne had to put into this performance definitely showed.

The Nominees for Best Actress:

Julianne Moore, “Still Alice”

Rosamund Pike, “Gone Girl”

Felicity Jones, “The Theory of Everything”

Reese Witherspoon, “Wild”

Marion Cotillard, “Two Days, One Night”

Will Win: Julianne Moore, “Still Alice”

Should Win: Rosamund Pike, “Gone Girl”

My Opinion: Rosamund Pike, “Gone Girl”

Although Julianne Moore is bound to win for her performance in “Still Alice”, I do think that Rosamund Pike deserves the Oscar. Her performance in “Gone Girl” grabbed the attention of many. She played a character that was very unpredictable and made the audience keep wanting more. This is her first movie where she has been noticed in a huge way and if she does win; it will be well deserved.
