For those of you who have been noticing John, Paul, George, and Ringo in the media more than usual recently, it’s because it’s the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles! On February 9th, it was a half-century to the day since The Beatles made their U.S. debut with their performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” which drew more than 73 million viewers. The band’s appearance on the show in 1964 really put them on the map in America in ways their music hadn’t yet had the chance to do, and Beatlemania went in full swing Stateside. You can watch a snippet of their performance of “I Want To Hold Your Hand” here !
Suffolk’s own David Gallant, who teaches a Freshman Seminar course on The Beatles, was featured on WZLX’s “Breakfast With The Beatles,” hosted by Beatles expert Chachi Loprete. Gallant was interviewed about everything, from what was going on when America was watching “The Ed Sullivan Show” on that night in 1964, to The Beatles’ effect on the music industry and so much more. To watch Suffolk University’s arguably coolest professor, David Gallant, talk about the most important band in music’s history and their fifty-year milestone, click on the links below! If you feel like you need more Beatles in your life, you can also listen to Chachi’s “Breakfast With The Beatles” every Sunday morning at 8:00 on 100.7 WZLX.
