When I opened the email titled “College Fashion Week” I started to freak out, in a good way. I was going to be in a real runway show, as a model, wearing designer clothes and strutting my stuff. This was a dream come true and I was beyond excited, and this was only one of the many cool opportunities that joining Suffolk’s chapter of Her Campus has brought me! So as the weeks lead up to Boston’s college fashion week I got more and more excited.
The day of the show I showed up early because I was asked to participate in a pre-show photoshoot which was fun, not going to lie I love the camera. But then we spent a significant amount of time getting styled and trying outfits on! Getting to wear Rebecca Minkoff was an honor in itself, loved her accessories! And then I got the chance to talk to some of the other girls from surrounding colleges and it was so refreshing and cool to see that they were just normal college students like me! Following that we got briefed on how the show would run and practiced walking in our most “dangerous shoes”, *cue six inch heels by Beyonce*. Only two of the girls had prior experience walking in a runway show so we all supported and encouraged each other to give it our all and strut down the runway!
We were whisked off to hair which was amazing because it was by Drybar, and also got our makeup done by some very talented women and by then it was almost time for the show to start. I didn’t think I was alone in being nervous but everyone was smiling and ready to go. The show started and walking out onto that runway was one of the most nerve racking, and exciting things I’ve ever done! With seven hundred people watching I posed and smiled like I had no care in the world!! I got to do it another three amazing times without incident and by the end I thought I could do it with my eyes closed.
Throughout the entire event the women from Her Campus were nothing but sweet and supportive! They gave us words of positive encouragement and always made sure that we were comfortable and happy! I’m so grateful that I was able to have this experience with such an amazing group of strong women! They were also kind enough to not only give us goodie bags, but also let us keep one outfit we wore during the show, gifted us the newest fit bits, and even let us keep the Bertha watches that we wore in the show, some of which costed more than $500!! Her Campus was so generous and is a wonderful company to be a part of, even as a college student. They promote girl power and stand to serve as a prime example of a company
Her Campus was so generous and is a wonderful company to be a part of, even as a college student. They promote girl power and stand to serve as a prime example of a company that I would personally want to work for. Thank you to all the ladies I’ve met through this club, you all inspire me to work hard and always be myself.
