On October 8th, 2014 I saw the youngest (and in my opinion the most attractive) Jonas Brother perform at the Wilbur Theater in downtown Boston. I stood in line with hundreds of eager girls (and a few reluctant men) patiently waiting to hear Nick Jonas debut his new album. Jonas spent an entire year in hiding due to the tragic split of his band, and was now ready to reemerge into the music scene. The tiny Wilbur Theater was jammed packed, and audience members sat anxiously in their seats awaiting his arrival. The curtains opened, and there stood Nick Jonas in the center of the stage looking very grown up. (If you’ve seen Jonas’ recent photo shoot in “Flaunt” magazine, you will know that time served him well.)
The bass dropped and the audience was immediately brought to their feet. The theater erupted in ear shattering screams and thunderous applause. Jonas’s new music is very easy to dance to, and I would like to take this time to apologize to the girl sitting next to me who was on the receiving end of my many hip bumps. His songs are extremely catchy, and have an entirely different vibe from the music he recorded with his brothers. Jonas has matured as an artist over the years, and fans had the chance to witness this with new songs such as “Jealous” and “Numb”. In a recent interview with Flaunt magazine (seriously, you need to look this interview up, you won’t regret it) Jonas described his new music as, “Something people can listen to when they’re really pissed off”.
Jonas performed many old throwbacks that transported me right back to the days of middle school dances. He brought the house down with his heartfelt ballad, “A Little Bit Longer” and a beautiful rendition of Sam Smith’s “Stay with me.” Jonas captivated the audience with every note, and it was an unforgettable performance. His new album will be available for purchase on ITunes on November 11th, 2014.
