Chivalry might not be dead everywhere, but in college this appears to be the case. When was the last time you had a door held open for you? Or the last time a guy walked you home just to make sure you got there safely? Amidst all of the hook-ups, slutty ABC parties, and frat boy mentalities, once in awhile, it’s nice to be treated like a lady by a true gentleman.
Instead of just “hanging out”, take a girl out to dinner. Guys don’t always have to pay, (we are all broke college students) but it’s nice to be treated every so often. It doesn’t always have to be somewhere fancy or expensive either. There are plenty of casual and relatively priced restaurants, bars, and pubs in the North End, South End, and Downtown Boston.
Another gentlemanly gesture is walking a girl home or waiting outside with her until she gets a cab or catches the train, and then following up with a text to make sure she got home okay. When you are living in a city you can never be too careful. It helps to have everyone looking out for one another and she’ll really appreciate this gesture.Â
In this frigid weather, if she is cold it would be nice to offer her your coat or sweatshirt to wear. Our stylish coats and sweaters are not always built to face the arctic Boston weather.
Instead of a late night booty call, send her for a whirl and just call her to chat. Sometimes late night conversations are the best and just lead to some of the most deep and interesting topics.Â
Tell her she is beautiful; there is nothing kinder than to hear those few words. Make sure you know the difference between when to call her hot and when to tell her she is beautiful because those two words mean very different things from a girl’s perspective.
Remember, when in doubt, a gentlemen acts in ways that his mother and grandmother would be proud of. A true gentleman is someone you would want your own daughter to date someday. Keep that one in mind!
