‘Tis the Season for Holiday Bashes… so what do I wear?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…to get dressed up for fancy holiday bashes!  Ring in the New Year looking sleek and sexy, wearing a whole new you.  This cold winter season it is crucial to abide by a few staple item rules, leaving you looking your best, fashionable self at all times of the day.

1.Outerwear: When it comes to the upcoming brisk wintry afternoons, outerwear is extremely important. After all, your whole outfit becomes your outerwear when its the only thing you can see.  Keep it chic and trendy in a warm trench coat, colorful wool scarf, cable knit leggings and leather boots.  Always remember to pick out striking colors that compliment each other.  A fresh winter white coat looks amazing paired with a scarf in one of the colors spotted on this season’s runway; indigo, bright purple, emerald and heather grey.  Dare to be different, matching your wool scarf with colored earmuffs and a fur hand muff.  Some of my personal favorite picks of this fashion season:

2.The Sexy Holiday Outfit: For every holiday bash, your outfit should scream sleek and extraordinary.  This year its all about the glam, shine and sparkle.  You want to look completely fabulous and breathtaking, but at the same time, elegant and classy – that is the key to steal the show.  With these few style tips, every fashionista will surely be the only star that night.

  • Choose a sleek and sexy dress that will compel everyone’s eyes to turn to you.  Be sure to pick a style, pattern and color that compliments your body type and skin tone.
  • Whether its a gown or cocktail dress, know how to ‘work it’ with the right shoes and accessories.  Confidence is key.  You can look absolutely gorgeous in a dress, but that means nothing without your determination to shine in it – do not let the dress wear you.
  • Strut your stuff in heels – if you are wearing a neutral colored dress, pick fun holiday colored pumps with matching accessories and a clutch.
  • Black tights are always a good choice on a cold evening – they elongate your legs, making them look sleek and elegant, while keeping them warm.
  • And, most important of all, have fun!  Be happy with and comfortable in your outfit choice.

My name is Alexa Mellardo and I am currently a sophomore and Broadcast Journalism major at Suffolk University, located in the heart of one of the most charming cities in the world: Boston. A passionate journalist, I am fortunate to be doing what I love to do….writing! When I’m not composing articles for two awesome online publications (hercampus.com and also collegefashionista.com) and attending classes, I intern at a trendy magazine in the city. In between, I love to shop and spend time with my friends and my boyfriend. I have two addictions: shopping and cupcakes. In light of that, what better place to be than just blocks away from Newbury Street, Charles Street and Quincy Market? My quaint, vintage brownstone apartment in Beacon Hill is where my two best friends and I keep it strictly classy and fashionable. We turned our apartment into a comfy fashionable haven, and we enjoy relaxing and entertaining our friends. Living in such an awesome city provides a wealth of opportunity, fun, and culture to embrace. My dream is to one day be a respected, well-known broadcast journalist.
