Mary Robinson was the speaker that came to Susquehanna last week. She touched upon many aspects of faith in her speech, the big one being climate change. However, what stood out to me and the big thing I took away from her speech is when she said, “God is love.” I fully believe that, even though that was only one line of her entire speech, she made it clear that she believed that throughout her life. All the experiences she has been through in her life has made her a better person through God’s love.
She said although she doesn’t talk about her faith a whole lot, she lives her faith every day. It is important for all of us to understand that even if we go day to day not thinking about our faith or about our savior, we can still believe in the unconditional love of God as it always surrounds us. Whether it is through people, experiences or nature in general, God’s love is always present. She explains the dramatic times in her life where she has seen the worst of the worst but also the best of the best. There are so many times in our lives where we get so blessed with such precious moments only for them to be overlooked. Listening to her speech, it made me realize how special each and every day is walking in our Lord’s footsteps. Being able to capture the wholehearted love of God and be alone with nature is something that I take for granted. However, Mary Robinson explains the need to do this and by doing so, God comes to us in love and embraces us with the simple things in life. Mary Robinson says to “live by the gospel of Jesus Christ” and to always remember that “God is love.” To always live in a way that is “in tune with earth” and never forget how precious our earth is, for God made it.
