We write as a form of escapism. There’s nothing better than disappearing for awhile into a world you’ve created all on your own, far removed from reality, where you’re in control of the minutest details. Anyways, I’m about to escape to a world where I’m not sat in a top bunk in my dark forced triple room, sipping lukewarm vanilla chai tea and already exhausted even though it’s only 1pm and I’ve barely done anything except procrastinate. In this world, I’m not being crushed by deadlines from all sides; it’s May 9th and I’m headed back home, dreaming of all the cool things I’m going to do between now and the end of August.
- Learn a new skill
-
Okay, I don’t know whether I’ll actually do this one or not. But this is my fantasy so screw it. One thing I want to try is some new mediums of art, especially painting. I’ve only ever finished one painting before and it was really bad, but I admire people who can paint and would like to experiment with it more.
If there’s some new skill you’ve been wanting to learn— art, cooking, coding, a language, anything— the summer is the perfect time to try it!
- Spend time with friends and family
-
When I’m home, I often don’t have enough time to spend time with everyone I want to because it would kill this university to give us a day off every once in a while. This summer, I want to catch up with like three people from high school, my parents, and my adorable pets! This is an extremely cursed picture of my dog.
- All of the things I can’t justify doing during the semester
-
Let me specify. We all have a stack of books we haven’t read, or video games we haven’t finished, or shows we really want to watch, but as busy college students we don’t really have the time or energy to engage with these things. This summer, I’m going to catch up on my 2019 reading challenge and play so, so many video games. So many.
Ah, that was refreshing. Good luck with the last two weeks of the semester!
