As one entrepreneur crossing the nation to meet others, Erin Miller is taking her love for small businesses on the road with Out There Productions.
The senior advertising for emerging business and technologies major realized that by combining her filmography skills with her passion for entrepreneurship, she could help small businesses and startups gain presence and share their great ideas.
Miller had the brainchild two years ago and has since worked on crafting her portfolio to build credibility, she said. Last semester, she and her team members, Johnny Rosa and Losa Amara Meru, accelerated the preparation process in hopes to make Out There Productions their full-time pursuit after graduation.
Out There Productions is a mobile video production company that creates explainer videos for small businesses and startups. Miller’s ultimate goal is for OTP to have zero limitations.
“We’re making it into everything we ever wanted: making movies, traveling around the country, meeting inspiring people, and sharing their stories!” Miller said.
As with any daring project, there were a few bumps in the road. However, Miller pushed herself to practice what she preached and have the confidence to build a small business like those OTP highlights. With mentorship and strong support from her team, OTP has managed to get the wheels rolling on obtaining new equipment and clients.
“Surround yourself with a solid squad. Bounce your ideas with people that believe in you, but also challenge you,” Miller said. “Have experienced mentors that will take you under their wing and show you the lay of the land, just like Mufasa did for Simba in The Lion King.”
The burgeoning production company is continually growing at a rapid speed. Miller and her team recently purchased a school bus that is set to undergo a full renovation. With their own equipment, editing software and a nomadic creative space, Miller is ready to explore the country and help locals share their stories.
Said Miller: “In five years, I see Out There Productions thriving as a production company, but also as the inspiration of a movement to be bold, travel the world, and share our stories with each other.”
