Your Guide to Tailgate Fashion!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Syracuse chapter.

Ah, tailgate season.  What’s not to like?  There’s beer, boys, and the opportunity to get adorable pics for the Gram that show off your school spirit.  Of course, it’s notoriously difficult for us girls to find cute and darty-worthy college attire at the bookstore, where basically every item is unflatteringly oversized or just plain boring!  If you want to spice things up for your next tailgate, or are simply looking for some cute outfit ideas to make sure your Insta-like game is strong, keep reading.

  1. Go strapless.

Those of us who go to school in cold climates are familiar with savoring every warm day that comes along until we’re subjected to a cold, snowy winter that spans from October to April.  Really soak up those final rays of sun by investing in a cute logo tube top from a website like bygabby.org.  Tube tops were all the rage this summer, so why not give the trend one last hurrah as fall closes in?  Tube tops are comfy, cute, and super versatile; you can pair them with basically any bottoms, and their lightweight material makes them perfect for layering with a bomber or jean jacket when the weather does start to cool down.

2. Create a custom off-the-shoulder top.

Whether you want to write a message declaring your love for your school’s team or simply have a cute top with your school’s name on it, the custom tailgate top from gamebaes.com caters to your desires.  It has a cropped, off-the-shoulder fit that is feminine and flirty and the fact that you can write your own custom message means it’s super unique, too.

3. Wear a skirt.

Show off those legs in a patched skirt from marleerosecampusclothes.com.  Pair with a solid bodysuit or logo shirt of your choosing to be spirited in style.

4. Check out Victoria’s Secret PINK:

There’s a PINK store at every local mall, so grab some cash and get shopping!  The Victoria’s Secret PINK brand offers a collegiate collection that is unbeatable when it comes to comfort.  Whether you want to rock a spirited sports bra when it’s hot or a cozy lace-up pullover when it’s chilly, PINK will have something to fit your needs.  They even sell college-logo’d slides — talk about original!

5. Invest in a custom college bomber for the ultimate statement piece.

If you never want to stress about having the perfect tailgate outfit again, you might want to look into purchasing a custom college bomber from lojobands.com.  These totally timeless jackets will look chic and effortless layered over even the most simple of outfits, while you can show off how much you heart your school at the same time — not to mention, they’re the perfect fall weather staple and can be worn to class too!

6. When in doubt, DIY.

Buying custom tailgate apparel can be pricey, so why not grab a pair of scissors and do-it-yourself?  Fish out all of the old college shirts that are so oversized and unflattering all you do is sleep in them and start strategizing.  Use resources like Pinterest and Youtube for creative ideas and tutorials on how to cut shirts.  You can even invite your friends over and make a day out of it — there’s always at least one girl in any given friend group who knows what she’s doing when it comes to cutting shirts.  If you’re feeling really inspired, head over to a craft store and buy paint and glitter too.  You’ll save money and have a ton of fun doing it.

Cheers to a happy, healthy and stylish tailgate season!  May we all get Instagram pictures so cute we don’t even have to Facetune them and a beer buzz without the bloated hangover that inevitably follows.
