Have you ever wondered who is behind the scenes of Her Campus UT? Each week we will be featuring a different Her Campus UT member, so be on the lookout!Â
Name: Nicolette Joe Barone
Age: 19
Grade:Â Junior
Hometown: Staten Island, New York
What made you decide to attend UT? I always felt like I belonged in Florida. When I visited UT I felt a strong sense of belonging and I felt at home here. (But I am extremely proud of my Italian New York roots.)
Where is your favorite place to go to in Tampa? One of my favorite places to go to in Tampa is Oxford Exchange. I absolutely love tea and the atmosphere there makes me feel like I am in another world. I love drinking tea and reading a good book in there on a rainy day.
What is your major and what do you plan on doing with it upon graduating? My Major is elementary education. I hope upon graduating that I will be hired to work in a school and teach either kindergarten or first grade. My ultimate dream of teaching is to work in the Department of Defense schools for the Army bases all around the world and then eventually settling down and working at a school in Texas.
What was the highlight of your summer? The highlight of my summer was definitely working at my job. I was a lifeguard at a senior citizen pool and they let me run the water aerobics class. I had so much fun connecting with other people in my community and learning many life lessons from these amazing women.
What do you plan on accomplishing this year as the Event Coordinator & Publicity Director of Her Campus UT? As the Event Coordinator and Publicity Director of Her Campus I plan on putting on many events that are not only fun, but also educational. As a new organization on campus I want this semester to be the time where Her Campus makes their mark on this campus. I want the organization to be recognized and also for us to enjoy every moment together.
Any advice for incoming freshman? This is the time in your life to discover yourself and make unforgettable memories. These next four years will be full of adventures and heartbreak, a preparation for the many years of life you have ahead of you. Embrace every moment and every person who walks into your life. They are a blessing in some sort of way. Never miss an opportunity to grow and learn from the people and places around you.Â
